DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of this workshop-style session\, Kris Decker brings a few materials and thoughts from his fieldwork on climate issues. Some footnotes – fragmentary and unpolished – shall trace the contours of a project in the making as well as problematize the ways and means of thinking with/through/below/alongside wicked matters of concern\, such as the onepointfivedegrees climate target. Besides\, this séance is intended to open an exchange about the everyday practices\, pitfalls\, and desperations of composing a manuscript – essayistic or not – from a mess of materials. Everyone is invited to bring and share experiences of their own. For prior reading\, participants are pointed to a Bruno Latour interview on his diary-keeping practice and the stakes of writing about planetary issues (so-called). \nParticipation in person at KWI is currently reserved for speakers and colleagues who are on-site. SUMMARY:Danilo Scholz: Der Rohstoff internationaler Organisationen (1914-1979)
DESCRIPTION:Selten herrschte von der Popkultur bis in die akademischen Debatten ein solches Einvernehmen: Ressourcen gelten als großer Spaltpilz der Weltgeschichte. Um den Zugang zu Rohstoffen wie Kohle und Öl wurden Kriege geführt. An Fragen ihrer Produktion und Verteilung entzündeten sich immer wieder geopolitische Konflikte\, die Völker gegeneinander aufwiegelten und als Vorwand zur imperialistischen Unterjochung ganzer Bevölkerungsgruppen dienten. Noch heute spricht man in der Wissenschaft von einem „Ressourcenfluch“\, der auf rohstoffreichen Entwicklungsländern lastet und ihnen den Weg zu dauerhaftem Wohlstand zu versperren scheint. \nOhne das konfliktträchtige Potenzial der Ressourcenverarbeitung kleinzureden\, soll in diesem Vortrag der Schwerpunkt auf einen anderen\, weithin vernachlässigten Aspekt gelegt werden: Die Rohstoffgewinnung erwies sich im 20. Jahrhundert auch als Motor grenzüberschreitender Kooperation.
