Comparing Landscapes: Approaches to Space and Affect in Literary Fiction

The Collaborative Research Centre (SFB 1288) – Practices of Comparing at Bielefeld University in collaboration with the Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies at Bielefeld University and the Swiss National Science Foundation invites submission of proposals for an exciting interdisciplinary conference, ‘Comparing Landscapes: Approaches to Space and Affect in Literary Fiction’, which will take place in April 20-21, 2023 at the ZiF Bielefeld, Germany.
Our keynote speakers will be Prof. Caroline Bassett, University of Cambridge, Prof. Alexander Honold, University of Basel, Jun.-Prof. Mareike Schumacher, Regensburg University, and Prof. Matthew Wilkens, Cornell University.
Additionally, a panel discussion on Comparing, Hermeneutics, and the Data Paradigm will take place. Dr. Britta Hochkirchen (Art History), Prof. Dr. Kirsten Kramer (Romance and Comparative Literary Studies), Dr. Elisa Ronzheimer (German Literary Studies), and Prof. Dr. Silke Schwandt (Digital History) will discuss forms and functions of comparing and address the ‘analoge’ und ‘digital’ approaches juxtaposed at our conference.
The conference will be co-located with the Training School Digital tools for the identification of textual practices of comparing. An introduction to annotation and operationalisation with CATMA on April 22. (Please note that participation to the Training School does not depend on your attendance to the the conference, you can attend just one event, or both)
